The Toxicity of Social Media

We've all heard about how toxic social media can be. Some of us may get into the habit of comparing ourselves to others, believing people's lives are the way they display it on Instagram, and honestly, we end up hating and judging people for tweeting about their political views and mindless opinions. So why do we keep up with it? For me personally, I maintained my social media accounts for a long time because I enjoyed being connected and reading about people's thoughts and what they were up to. However, those days are now long gone for me and I have begun a social media cleanse, starting with deactivating my Twitter, being less active on my personal Instagram and Facebook, and only using social media for work/business purposes. To clarify being "less active" on social media, I am no longer scrolling through my feed for the purpose of just seeing what everyone is up to, simply wasting my time. My time is valuable (and so is yours), so why waste it staring at your phone trying to keep up with what others are doing? That is my biggest issue with Twitter, hence, my social media cleanse and purge of removing these platforms from my life.Think about how many pointless hours we spend scrolling through our phones, reading and looking at the mindless nonsense that appears on our newsfeed. In my opinion, this applies heavily for Twitter and Facebook. Sure, we stay updated on some of the current events through these platforms, but what remains when that is taken away? Simply mindless, low-grade distractions that strip you from your valuable time and beautiful, unique mind.We have a choice in what we absorb and put our time into. I have chosen to leave the thumb-scrolling days behind me because I want to grow, learn, and spend my limited hours on my passions, relationships, staying healthy (physically and mentally), and everything that genuinely fulfills me.Find a passion and share it. Find something that fulfills you so much to the point you could talk all day about it to anyone. Become an expert in your field and share that knowledge. Let's not allow the toxic social media world to limit our potential.xx
