Daily Habits and Routines for 2021

Wow, just like that...it's already 2021. Happy New Year folks - I know it's been quite some time since I last written anything on this blog, quite frankly because I have been focused on other core projects of mine. However, I'm back with a fresh mindset for this blog and with a lot of my peers and podcast listeners being interested in my routines and how I manage to do "everything" (full-time job, two businesses, podcasting, content creation, etc.), I thought I would start by sharing my key habits that allow me to create such ample time for my lifestyle / career.First, I'll start off with my morning routine, which are also essentially my daily habits and how I start my day before touching any of my work, especially emails.

  • Waking up between 5:30am - 6:30am (during the weekdays)
  • Working out for 45 mins - 1 hour, with either pilates, boxing, HIIT, or a 4-mile walk
  • Making my bed (takes 2-3 mins)
  • Making/drinking coffee and green juice

A habit that I highly advise on is keeping your wake-up times as consistent as possible. I started implementing an earlier wake-up time during my Junior year of college, starting with 8am (which felt very early at that time) and then inching my way down to 7am by Senior year. By the time I started working full-time at my sales job, I was waking up at 6am, but pre-covid, was working out after work. The reason why it's so helpful to keep it consistent and around the same time is so that the foundation of your day (the morning) is rock solid. Even if you don't believe in routines, I think having a basic regular wake-up time and doing one specific thing in the morning that "sets the tone" for your day is ideal for waking the brain up.When it comes to weekly routines, these are what I do consistently each week:

  • Recording podcast episodes on only Tuesday and Thursday - editing / publishing done on Friday
  • Minimum of 4 workouts per week, but always shooting for 5
  • All meetings with my internal team for the podcast and business are on Tuesday and Thursday only
  • Cleaning / tidying up the home every Wednesday and Sunday

The reason why I set designated days to do certain work and tasks is so that my brain doesn't think about it on other days, where I'm more focused on one of my ventures or my corporate job. I intentionally choose specific days that I know are more flexible with my 9-5 job, so that I can put my focus in the podcast work.I'm not huge on New Year's Resolutions, but I do believe in the power of mindset and energy shifts. With a new year (especially after 2020), there's typically a lot of desire to "get your shit together" and make a change, which I believe can absolutely happen and stick with you consistently. The most important thing you do is that you make it consistent, which as a result, makes it part of your identity and who you identify as.If you want to identify as a fit/toned, healthy person with a rockin' body, then you'll need to be putting a workout on your schedule at least 3x a week. Start with Monday, Wednesday, and Friday then build up from there. There is nothing more unrealistic than going from level 0 to 5 and hoping you can stick it out. What are your typical daily habits and routines?xx
