Staying Focused and Maximizing Time During Quarantine
Yes, folks. It is what it is, we are all in quarantine or lockdown of some sort. And it's kinda crazy realizing that no matter what country you live in, you're affected by this right now too. So this ain't just for my US readers.I wanted to just share my thoughts on today's blog post on what I've been doing the past few weeks to maintain my focus, a sense of normalcy, and maximizing my time during this quarantine so I can come out on the other side with some wins. And perhaps this post can give you some additional ideas on how you can stay winning too.*Waking up at normal morning time, not sleeping in too muchLet me be real fucking honest here, the first week or two, I started to let it slide and slept in until 7:45am or so. Which for my typical schedule, is super late, because I usually have to be at the office by that time or at the very least, 8am. After two weeks of realizing I was losing my shit and was leading myself towards a bad habit, I got myself together and made sure my alarm was staying set at my normal time--heck, I even set it a little earlier for tomorrow morning for 5:45am. We'll see how that goes...Truthfully, it's a simple mental battle. It's SO much easier to let it slide and trust me, I really want to let it slide! But I also don't want to be going backwards, I want to go forward. I also like to think about someone that aspires me to be better and constantly improve--which is Kobe Bryant. With this much time on our hands, I know that someone like Kobe would never let it allow him to create excuses or become complacent. Sure, he'd very likely be practical and accept what is, but he would not let that dictate his work ethic and drive. And as someone who relates to him with this kind of mindset (also being a previous competitive athlete), I want to ensure I am improving my work ethic and drive during this*Being creative with making side cashSince most of you who consistently read this blog are around my age, I know we are all probably in a similar boat with our current income situation. Whether you recently lost your job or simply finding it more difficult now to make ends meet, you can still find ways to make extra side cash--even if it's $50. One huge recommendation I have, especially for my fellow females, is to sell your gently worn clothes on Poshmark!!!! This is such an easy task and also another easy way to clean your closet (hello, a double win???) Chances are, you have a lot of items in your closet that are nice brands and you've only worn 2-3 times. List that shit on Poshmark, stop waiting. Chances are, you've probably only been binge watching your favorite TV show and half-assing your virtual job or schoolwork. *Pursuing new projects and ideasI'm going to be truthfully honest...I am NOT one of those people that believes in "following your passion". I really am not. Which probably doesn't seem to make sense, because I am passionate in a lot of what I do. But I did not start with the thought of "following my passion". I started many of my current projects out of desire to maximize my time--in the future. Meaning, a lot of what I do today, I probably started out when I was in college. Why? Because I had MUCH more free time then, than I do now while working a 9-5 job. Which I also completely knew would be true. So essentially I started my blog, podcasting experience, business expansion, and etc. during a period in life where the opportunity cost was not that big. I just sacrificed some social events, parties, time with friends, etc. It's always an opportunity cost.BUT GUESS FUCKING WHAT!! RIGHT NOW IS NOT AN OPPORTUNITY COST. IT'S LITERALLY FREE TIME. You don't have ANY other choice but to stay the fuck home and either choose to be miserable about it or choose to take advantage of it. So unless you truly just want to be miserable and upset, why not take advantage of it? What are some things that you've been dying to try, but keep making excuses up in the past that you don't have time for it?Maybe it is starting a blog? Even if it's just for shits and giggles. Do it!!!!? Or what about your curiosity for the stock market--you do realize right now is the PERFECT time to learn how the stock market works, how to trade, etc...right? Unless you don't understand the current state of the economy, then maybe don't even consider getting into the stock market, lol. Or learning how to mix songs and DJ--do you love music? Been curious how artists do it? Look up videos on YouTube and learn how! The point is, right now is such an easy time to pursue ANYTHING, whether it's for fun and entertainment or because you want to see if it could lead to an actual gig in the future. Just start. Stop waiting. Next thing you know, by the time quarantine is done, you're going to wish you did it. Regret is not something we live with around here.*Read a new bookSeriously, I don't care if you don't like reading books. That just means you can reduce the amount of books you read during quarantine. The point of this is to maintain the sharpness of your mind. Even if our "normal" life seems to be on pause, it doesn't mean your knowledge can't keep growing and learning.A book I've been LOVING is the book, How To Be a Capitalist Without Any Capital by Nathan Latka. I've also been practicing some LSAT questions for fun. Something about logical reasoning questions and logic games that just stimulates my mind. Yes, I'm weird. It's fine. These have been a few of my practices I've done during this quarantine time. And what I know and can guarantee is that whenever this is all fucking done, not only will post-corona parties be lit as fuck...I will have so many personal and professional wins and will look back a year from today and thank myself for it.Will you?xx
