Weekly Self-Care for a Healthy Lifestyle
For almost about a year now, I developed various changes in my self-care habits, both physically and mentally. With these new habits, I have seen significant change in my thought process, mindset, and approach to life and relationships, in which a few close friends have observed as well. In this post, I want to be share a few of those habits that I indulge in, in order to maintain a healthy body, mind, and overall lifestyle as a college student and entrepreneur.
- Podcasts - I began listening to podcasts around the beginning of Fall in 2017 and I remember being hooked instantly because I was learning so much new information while doing mundane tasks, such as driving or simply cleaning my room. Over time, I developed a natural habit of listening to at least one podcast episode a day, often when I am taking care of errands in the morning, working out at the gym, or simply driving. Listening to specific podcasts helps me remain focused and aligned with my vision, essentially just giving me clarity from all the BS that we are often fed by the media. I was also featured on a podcast called "Where Are We Going Now" and I included the link to the episode here.

- Favorite podcasts:The School of Greatness
-
- The Tony Robbins Podcast
- The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast
- The Influencer Podcast
- Goal Digger Podcast
- The Tim Ferriss Show
- Books - another habit I have incorporated in my weekly routine is reading. I try to read at least once a day, ideally before bed or first thing in the morning. When I do this, I usually read for about 30-45 minutes and this also helps give me clarity and focus, a similar alternate to meditation for the mind. With my busy schedule as a college student, I don't have enough time to read that many books, but I have read quite a few this year and below are my favorites that I would recommend if you are looking to rewire your mind and change your approach to life.
-
- Recommendations:Principles by Ray Dalio
-
- The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck by Mark Manson
- The Obstacle is the Way by Ryan Holiday (I listen on audible)
- Exercise - it is extremely important to understand the positive effects of daily exercising besides having a healthier physique. Exercise also helps with our mental health, as it releases endorphins during our workout which helps manage any stress, anxiety, and depression. As a previous competitive athlete, I have always preferred high rigor exercise classes or activities to do for my exercise, especially since maintaining a toned and fit body is important to me. However, I also love doing simple long exercises too, such as power walking, hiking, and etc. My current go-to workouts are listed below.
-
- Current go-to workouts:SoulCycle spin class (45 mins)
-
- CorePower yoga (C2 or Sculpt)
- Outdoor running (3-5 miles or 30-45 mins)
- UFC Kickboxing/Boxing
- Lagree class (Trim Fitness Studio in OC)
- Power walking on treadmill (speed at 3.5-4.0 with 0.5-1.0 incline for 45 mins to 1 hour)
- Elliptical (30-45 mins)
The key to incorporating these practices to become natural habits is being consistent and slowly incorporating each one. Start with one podcast/book and test out when you prefer to listen. Be open minded to the new changes and practices, especially if you haven't incorporated any similar habits before. Remember, our body and mind serve as our "human machine" that helps us function on a daily basis. What we feed our mind and body will reflect with our actions and lifestyle.xx
