Life Before the California Dream

Prior to becoming a full-time college student, I was a competitive figure skater and tennis player. I started competing in figure skating at the age of seven and a few years later, began my USTA journey at the age of ten.

My life growing up was not as normal as I had wished it to be, but fortunately, it has shaped me into the strong individual I am today. Being a competitive and top-ranked athlete in two sports gave me a lot of “star” power within not only both the USFSA and USTA communities, but also my local hometown and school community who knew about both of my training endeavors.

My typical schedule in high school consisted of being on the ice from 6-7:30am before heading to school with tennis clinics and training right after school from 3-5pm three times a week. On non-tennis days, I would continue my skating practice for another 1-2 hours after school, along with off-ice training. On the weekends, I drove down to the Olympic Training Center at University of Delaware for my lessons (yes, I only had lessons once a week).

With this rigorous schedule, I had very little time (and energy) for the typical high school social events, such as Friday night football games, after-parties, and etc. However, what became of this is years of creating the individual I am today. To this day, I still struggle to find enjoyment in placing or conforming myself into a “group”, simply because I am constantly striving to do what is best for myself, staying focused on my visions, staying in my own lane, and striving towards the 1%. And in order to do this, I must sacrifice what I like to do, for what I love.

Flash forward two and a half years later—I now reside in Southern California attending college full-time. In terms of figure skating, I still compete collegiately on occasion, although due to my back injury during the end of my Junior year of high school, it has prevented me from competing rigorously the way I did during my previous years. However, more of my skating focus is now in coaching, professional shows, and most importantly, my entrepreneurial ventures that involve the sport.

With my recent newfound focus, vision, and intention, I am extremely excited to continue to share my upcoming projects and finish the end of 2017 strong to head into 2018 with a powerful, intentional push. I encourage all of you to do the same--take a big step back from the current and evaluate where you are now and where you want to go. And with that, how will you get there?
